Morning Allen, On that 966 you are having fatherly instincts about (pacing and waiting), have you had a chance to verify for your self that the engine is locked? If I remember correctly, there is an access plate about 2 X 4 inches on either the left or right hand side (can’t remember) of the flywheel housing that you can open and stick a pry bar into and turn on the ring gear to find out if it is locked. One more thing, I don’t know if keeping it stock is a concern to you, but I stroked my 966 and put the 436 crank and pistons in mine to get more low-end torque. Best thing I ever did really made a low end puller out of it! You just might want to consider this if you are doing an engine swap anyway. I have the Blue Ribbon shop manual for that series, so if you need something holler. Good luck, and let us know when the baby arives :>).
