Brian.....a couple of thoughts. Liquid expands when it gets hot. If you fill it up to the top of the tank, it will overflow. Modern vehicles have a recovery system....in the old days, it was something done to cars in the 60's.

My little Ford 2N drove me nuts til I just let it find the level it needed, which is quite a ways down the tank. I knew better when I filled the BN, to not fill it to the brim.

I'd get a hand held thermometer, and see how hot she gets on the outside. My guess is that with all you are doing, you are fine.
