Al - In addition to the advice below check for the starter bendix jammed into the flywheel ring gear. (This happens a lot as the ring/bendix gears become badly worn.) Loosen the starter mounting bolts enough so you can pull the starter back and wiggle it around a bit, then retighten the bolts and try it. Or if your tractor is parked on hard ground put the transmission into road gear and manually rock the tractor back and forth until you see the fan blade move. Then try the starter again. If either of these fix the problem figure on replacing the bendix and/or ring gear for a permanent "cure"!
