Eddy – So long as the regulator you are using is not polarity sensitive (most of ‘em are not...) and the coil primary is connected properly, nothing else on the tractor cares about ground polarity. The tractor will run fine either way.

Just remember if you switch to positive ground you need to repolarize the generator before you start the engine the first time. And you’ll need to swap the wires at the ammeter unless you don’t mind it reading “backward”.
