K, About the only thing that can cause that type of violent backfire is a momentary interruption in the ignition circuit (and it is probably on the primary side). Could be either an open or a short; both scenarios will cause that backfire. Something, somewhere is causing your ignition to be shut off, then turned back on. When the ignition comes back in, all that raw fuel/air mixture in the exhaust system is torched off. Don't worry 'bout the fuel. If you didn't have fuel, there would be nothing in the exhaust to explode. Get my meaning? Allan
