You can't really go by casting numbers either.
Many of these tractors have been repaired with parts and even whole sections from donors. I have seen gasoline Ms with MD serial tags. The small tank is an indication of an older tractor. The 39 had a recession in the middle of the deck plate. The motor would be the 247ci engine. The radiator should have shutters and the manifold should have an adjustable flapper.
