Hard to say -- IH built kerosene/distillate tractors into the 50's, but most were produced from 1939 thru the end of WWII. If it is a 39 or and early 40, the transmission cover will have a depression or slot behind the seat, some people call them "slot tops" -- Later ones are completely flat. If it is a later model the serial tag is on the left side of the transmission housing. Casting codes were mentioned, not all of the castings would have been replaced. If you find several that have the same letter code, then you can tell the year. All castings should have a code on them.
