I have a 263 gas 706. Great tractor. Built with excellent brakes, hydraulics, steering and operator comfort. Transmission and rear end are bullet proof if it has been taken care of. Why??? Because it is basically the same as the 806 and 1206 with many many more horsepower. Sure .. TA may cause problems but when fixed properly it will last many years. Less face it .... we do not generally use this size of tractor for heavy tillage this day and age. If you keep the throttle backed off from full rpm the fuel consumption drops greatly. Doing light to medium work fuel consumption is not a problem. I do some cultivating and planting with mine and it will run along time on 5 gallons. The gas engines wear out faster. I have done sleeves, pistons, rings and bearings once. Then oil consumption went up and I did just rings. Many would say the IH 706 puts a JD 3010 or 20 to shame power wise. The tracor handles easy and turns tightly. A rough one (gasser)on an Iowa machinery auction would bring $1500 to $2000. Flat top fenders are worth $300 to $500 based on quality. Wide front end would be worth $500. A decent looking and good running 706 with fenders can easily bring $3000 to $4000 on an auction. Add a loader and actual 3 point and you could add easily $2000 to $2500. I have seen dealers wanting $7500 with a loader in good running order. Another feature I like about them is they are a fairly heavy tractor. Mine is filled with fluid so if you have enough power you are going to be able to pull through. Downfalls .... sometimes you have to play with the shifter. As prior posts have said that can be helped. Most have the 2 point but really that is not such a bad system as you can find 2 point equipment or add adaptors. Overall the 706 / 806 / 1206 actually made an attempt to catch up with John Deere. Many would say it did or ever surpassed Deere. The problem was the 56 and 66 series never really improved the 06 series that much. I think you get alot for your money with an 06 series tractor.

The Fordson F Ignition System - by Anthony West. A fellow restorer contacted me earlier this year asking for some help and advice on a model F that he was restoring. He had over a period of months spent a fair amount of his hard earned cash on replacement parts for the old "trembler" ignition. Sadly though all his efforts seemed to be a waste of time and money as he still couldn''t get the temperamental old thing to run correctly!! If i said that this was a little frustrating for him that would be "conservative" in fact the problem had reduce
