Hi Paul, If replacing that intake gasket doesn't solve the problem as TL suggested, I think the engine may be starving for fuel. Are you sure the float level is set high enough? You mentioned that you've choked the engine and it still dies under load. I'd replace that cracked venturi and check the float level. I had the opposite problem with a car. It would start and run fine until you stopped and shutoff the engine. Then it wouldn't restart and I just happen to call the Ford dealer in our area was talking to their service manager and told him about the engine flooding. He said Ford had used floats made from composite material and it would become gas soaked and then sink. I replaced the float and that solved the problem. My neighbor had the same problem on a Chrysler and she had it to every repair shop around here and they never found the problem. I told her that I thought it was the float and she took it back to a shop and they replaced the carburetor. They charged her $400.00. A float and gasket are around $25.00. Hal
