Hi Y71VET: I have owned a Model 284 for a year now. It only has 800 hours on it and runs very well. The rear lever at your left foot position is the emergency brake and at the right foot is the differential lock-up. I have a 55 gal drum set on the draw bar for balance (~500lbs.) since it has a front end loader. Great little tractor. Engine burns a little oil, but not to the extreme. The 3 point hitch is a bit of an odball, since I had to jury rig the draw bar supports and could not find exact parts.
