CNKS: That is precisely why I suggested strange, given the fact the the 656 and 544 came in the 60s and that PTO was either or and not both. If you chose 1000 rpm that is all you had. I don't have any information on 504 but seem to remember that being an option on later 504 models as well. When we look at mid 60s, 1000 rpm pto was really in its infantcy. Considering the amount of 540 equipment that would have been on farms at that time, I can't picture any farmer buying at tractor that size with 1000 rpm only. I think tractors from 7 up in the 06, 56, etc. with dual shaft PTO would have been tractor of choise if one wanted 1000 rpm. I know myself, my 1st 1000 rpm tractor was 1066. It was dual shaft 540 and 1000. I might have went to a 1466 but sales literature was saying 1000 rpm only on that one. I had a Deere that had both. I certainly wouldn't have wanted my 656 or 560 to be 1000 rpm only, as I had haybine, baler, sprayer, 400 air planter, manure spreader that were all 540 rpm pto. I just wonder if that 1000 rpm option, might have been used for specialty applications. Chisem Rider bean harvesters are one item that comes to mind. Harold down in Miss. Delta would know the answer to that. Other option could have been PTO driven hydraulic pumps powering hydraulic motors.

We traveled for six and a half hours to our destination - a little country town with a population of no more then one hundred and fifty people (57 of them being children under the age of thirteen). We arrived hoping to meet up with a man we knew had over one
