Taking a crank out of a W-30 is an major job. These engines have two large ball bearing for mains, and you don't just take out the crank like other shell bearing engines. You have to pull the flywheel off the crank and then pull the crank out of the block and then pull the bearing off the crank. Not an overnight thing! I bet that all you are going to have to do is adjust your rod bearings. That is generally all that has gone wrong unless the engine has run some significant time without oil. Especially since you say it only knocks some under load. Should be a very easy fix. Take a shim out one at a time alternating sides of the bearing cap until it's too tight to turn after tightening the cap; then add one more shim back and you should be all set.
