These engines can take a beating and still be a minor thing to repair. My F30 started knocking, BAD! I checked through the hand-hole and found the back tray for the crank to dip oil was dry. I removed the pan, cleaned the oiler hole for the tray, removed some babbit off the crank, replaced the crank bearing shell, and buttoned her back together. The cranks in these things are very forgiving.
