Amount of grease in Distributor

I just rebuilt my Dist. and set the points to .025, this is the correct gapping, right? Anyway, I wanted to know if the gear area where the Dist. mounts into the larger gear should be completely packed with grease or just lightly packed with grease? When i took it apart it was completely full however the grease was broken down into a watery sludge. Let me know, thanks.
