Hi Hen, A good T/A will last a long, long time. There are good ones out there and there are cheapos. Yes, you can do it in your garage. You'll have to split the tractor at two points to access the unit. After figuring in all the bearings, clutches, pressure plates, machine work and of course that T/A, you will be spending on the order of $1500 minimum if you do the work yourself. If you are going to work this tractor, I would really advise staying away from those little $495 dollar rebuilt units 'cause you'll be doing it all over again in a short while. Just my view, Allan
