Typically these tractors normally have allot of blowby. As long as there isnt any oil dripping out of the blow by tube its probably OK for a while. Have done an inframe overhaul on a 5488 which reduced the blowby but still has more tha most engines do. As far as the power steering, the hand pump is getting weak. Possibly needs a kit or replaced. Rear end and trans.are one of these tractors strong points and usually give little to no trouble. Very good series of tractors. The 5488 weve had has been a good tractor and we know several people with the 5288 who are verypleased with them.If you have any more questions just email me.
