Like little john says having machinery in action always draws attention. We bring a threshing machine and several wagon loads of cut wheat to our show every August. Over the course of each day we belt a variety of old tractors to the thresher and do short threshing runs. Similarly we’ll bring in an old time sawmill, shingle mill, hay press or whatever else we can arrange and belt ‘em to old tractors and run demo’s with these too. We also provide a couple hay wagons to hook to old tractors. They then provide free “hayride” tours around the show grounds. A Baker fan (or better yet a PTO dynamometer if you can get one) is good too. At one show I visited last summer they had a large pump that could be belted to various tractors and steam traction engines. The pump drew water from a small pond, and delivered it thru a fire hose to a nozzle which shot a water stream in an impressively high arc back into the pond. Key is to have something that can make the tractors work so show goers can see, hear, smell, etc old iron in operation!

A Question for Dads This recent topic from the Tractor Talk discussion board is being highlighted because it is an awesome display of the caliber of individuals that have made this site their own. The young person asking questions received positive feedback and advice from total strangers who "told it like it is" with the care many reserve for their own kids. The advice is timeless... so although it isn't necessarily antique tractor related, it will be prominently displayed in our archives to honor those who have the courage to ask and those who have the courage to respond in an honest, positive manner.
