I never did like the IH tower style clamps, always replaced them with the worm screw type clamps such as you mentioned when the need arose, so I doubt there is any problem with the clamps you are using. Assuming the new hoses are of the correct size, I would suggest following the advice given by Old in the reply below. I have used this trick myself, it works.
