Probably the pilot bushing. The rear end of the driveshaft bolts up to a coupler on the front of the transmission top shaft, possible the bolts got loose or broken. Bearings on the top shaft could be going out, but then you would have other problems. Those are all of the possible causes, but I'm going with pilot bushing. You'll see what's wrong the second you get it split. Parts avalibility is exellent for these older IH's. Your dealer will be able to get you anything you need.
