TSC, Van Sickle, etc sell synthetic enamel, the type paint that came on tractors from ancient times, thru the 60's and 70's. There may be differences in the quality of synthetic enamel, but it is still synthetic enamel, meaning it fades more rapidly than modern paints. The minimum standard is Case-IH 2150, which is a form of acrylic enamel, next up the ladder are the "economy" brands from the major companies such as the acrylic enamels and urethanes from PPG(Omni) and DuPont(Nason), which are in the $80+/ gallon range -- more than that if you use the recommended primers and surfacers, as I do--$200-$300 is more like it, counting everything. There are better paints, but for me they get cost prohibitive pretty fast. It takes me several months to prep a tractor, including stripping to bare metal, and fixing everything that needs fixing. I'm simply not going to risk cheap paint after that much work and expense. If I were going to do a "wash and spray" job, then I would use TSC or Van Sickle.
