I don't know if the linings have asbestos or not, but frankly, what little asbestos you'll get exposed to isn't going to hurt you. It's years and years of breathing in the asbestos fibers that give you lung cancer. Heck, years and years of breathing in most anything but pure air will give you cancer, and the jury's still out on that one... Good luck getting the drum off. Does it appear rusted? Is there a set screw? There's no oil or anything liquid that needs to be held inside the brake compartment, so there's no point in having any gaskets.
