Your post is a little confusing.

The belt is tightened by screwing the split pulley in and out. The front half of the pulley is a loose piece which may be frozen to the threaded rear half with threads about 2-1/2 inches in diameter.

There is a set screw and locknut which keeps the front half of the pulley from turning.

What is broken on yours?
