derf: To start with, the tractors you mention were never designed for 3 point or for that matter even their own 2 point fast hitch. Until American built row crops changed configuration, the operators platform was always in the way of any good hitch for mounted equipment. For IH it wasn't until 04, 06 and 56 series tractors that this happened. The biggest problem with the older H, M, 300, 400, etc.; most implements could not be lifted high enough for good ground clearence without striking the seat. I had an experience with a Farmall 560 fast hitch and 4 row corn planter, as I lowered the planter on the move, part of the planter hooked the seat taking it from under me. I should correct that a bit, as actually it had me by seat of pants as well. Not a very comfortable feeling.

When companies building American row crops moved the operator ahead about 18", changed mount and dismount to in front of rear wheel, instead of from drawbar, they truly had a tractor for mounted equipment.

If you are looking at one of the aftermarket 3 point kits for an H, M, 300, etc. just realize what you are getting. It is little more than a lift. Fine if you are just turning a family garden, doing a bit of bush hogging, maybe a snow blower or blade. Remember also the modern day draft controled 3 point hitch probably represents somewhere between $5,000. and $10,000. of the cost of that new tractor. Just don't expect that 3 point kit for the H, M, or 300 to do what the modern hitches do. I am not saying they are a bad buy, they do have their place. It's just not high production plowing along side a 504 or 656.
