I know this is of little use to you and will make you cringe, But this summer I watched a guy with a Merlin powered mod puller shove about four out of 12 connecting rods out the lower lefthand side of his engine. I didn"t think it sounded right at the start It made me cringe. There is not an engine that sounds like a Merlin that has been hopped up! If I was on the wtong side of a Merlin powered aircraft in WWII I would have headed for the hills! I have to also say that a Packard sounds really really good too! much better than the Allisons. which have more of a lumbering cargo of death bomber sound as compared to the sprots car like wail/buzzing rumble of the Merlins or Packards. I know this little to do with Farmalls but I had a chance to profess my love for the sounds of 12 cyilnder aircraft engines. Later, Will
