There are three external adjustments. The load screw is on the carb bottom front. It is a fine tuning screw on the main jet. It will tailor the fuel, not an absolute control. Normal is to start from about 3.5 to 4 turns out from a easy seated position. With it running at High Idle (full throttle no load) you should be able to get it to smoke a bit of black smoke traces. Thur it in until this goes away. Load test it to find out if it has black smoke under load. If so turn in 1/4 turn at a time till the smoke goes away. The second adjustment is the idle air screw. Top of carb on body. It is for slow idle only. It leans out the mix when screwed out, and richens when screwed in. Set for best idle when warm. The third is the idle speed, on the flange area of the governor tube at the throttle plate. Adjust to idle speed. Recheck the idle mix when this is set, then the idle speed to spec. Several cycles of this might be needed. White smoke is usually associated with coolant loss, not carb adjustment. Be sure it is not loosing coolant into combustion! JimN
