can you turn the gear assy in the retainer with it removed? if you can turn it with the housing out and not able to turn it with the housing installed the gear assy is not the problem.there has been a few posts on the forum where the tach head goes bad after a certain number of hours. if the cable is bad at the end the problem is in the cable or the head
