Red I would agree with some of the other posts.Make sure you are up on #1 compression then make sure your distributor is on #1 for the moment ignore the timing mark and DO NOT turn the balancer unless you use a socket on the crank bolt in the center.That balancer is attached by rubber if you turn it with your hands it will slip and your timing mark wont mean anything.That should get it started.Also as previously stated you more than likely have a nylon timing gear on your timing chain if that is the case replace it now.Will be the best 20 bucks you invest in that chevy motor.Good luck
