PhillipW, Tear the engine down, pull out the sleeves, insert a 350 piston kit (3-5/8 bore) Sleeve and piston kits are around 350-400 bucks if you find the right place. And thats for everything,, Run the 350 head gasket. Depends really, on what casting you cyl head is,, for a couple hundred bucks you can swap the old H head out for a 350 head, while you are at it, you can also install a Super H-350 camshaft. Most 350 piston kits are firecrater pistons, which are a good piston design for making torque. Thats what you can do to the block and head,,, now on carbs, distributors and governors. If you replaced the manifold, and used a Super H-450 carb, you will pick up a few free HP, rejet the carb, and metering stem, run a better grade gas in it, the HP increases more. Tear apart the distributor, if you know what to do,,, Underneath the points plate, there is a mechanical advance mechanism. it consists of a set of weights, 2 small springs, and the rotor shaft. 9 out of 10 Farmall tractors that come in to our repair shop, the advance is stuck, broken, or so sloopy from being worn out, it suprizes me that they ran! You can replace the springs with the stock springs, or ones from a Chevrolet HEI distributor used in the small, or big block chevys. The lighter springs will give you some pep in your throttle responce. If its is a running tractor,, has good compression across the cyls, there may be room for a few more hidden ponies there,, not much,,, but, it would be enough to notice while operating it. Best advice at the moment, is to look at your spark plugs,, if they are very light in color, you need more fuel,, or a bigger carb.
