In addition to what Boyd said, I know that on the B & C, it is a button switch. If the one on your Cub is similar, if you take out the two screws that hold the switch onto the starter you can take the switch off. On the starter there will be a copper button. It should be tight in the starter, and should be cleaned off until it shines. In the switch there is a copper plate that bumps against the button on the starter, it needs to be clean also. If the button on the starter is loose or looks like it has been heated, the soldered connection to the filed coils in the starter may have melted and is no longer making a good enough connection to engage the starter.
