I should have added, I rebuilt one last winter. If you're so inclined, rebuilding one is pretty easy. I replaced the balls, springs and gaskets for around $30 - getting the parts from Carter and Gruenwald (866 327 6255 - ask for Ken Updike). I did _not_ replace the seal as mine was good. I did try to unscrew the slotted coupling from the shaft but gave up when it became evident I was going to break it using the manual's recommended method. If you need to replace the seal, there's a method I've read about in the archives where one leaves the reservoir filled with oil and trys turning the coupling with an air ratchet - the resistance of the oil should hold the gears enough for you to get it off. Do a keyword search for 'liftall' in the archives and you should see it. Also, if you want to get a manual for the task, if your library does interstate, inter-library loans, you can get one from the State Library of LA - IH Blue Ribbon Service Manual - GSS-5034 - HYDRAULIC LIFT-ALL for Farmalls H, HV, M, MV, MD & MDV published by the International Harvester Company. The call number is 629.225.

"Run in the house and get me a...."as I open th
