When I did my C123 engine (my first one), I ran into the same sort of question. After I had tightened down the bearing caps to spec, the crank was really hard to move. After a lot of experimentation (alternately torquing down all the caps except one), I found that it was one particular cap that really stiffened things up. As it turned out, I had the cap on reversed -- the number that was stamped on the side was really faint, and just got it on the wrong way. I flipped it over, and the crank was immediately easier to turn. It does take more effort to get the crank turning once you've got the pistons in. In another rookie mistake, I put a piston in the wrong direction too! Luckily I caught that one before I cranked the engine over. I felt pretty stupid when I flipped the block over and saw all the arrows pointing forward except one. Good luck and have fun! - David
