Good idea, but there's just a direct line to the reservoir. I put the 3pt all the way up, took out the breather plugs to look for oil, and then let it leak down. Very little oil appeared, and none actually flowed out of the vent hole. When I got the tractor someone had added about one foot of pipe (2 inch diameter) to the fill hole in the reservoir. I thought at first that it was so they could easily add oil if needed, and since there was a corn picker mounted on the tractor some piece of the frame made it difficult to add oil. After about a month I realized the reservoir box leaked - oil was always on the platform and I had to add oil on a pretty regular basis. Anyway, I figure that in order to stop the oil leak I just as well work on the reservoir, so I took it off yesterday and will do through it this week. When I run into problems there's a case/IH dealer nearby who should be able to help. And, thanks for your idea. I'll use a different fluid in the system when I get it back together.
