Hi about 15 years ago my Dad was ploughing with his 454D and the fan belt broke, by the time he made it back to the machine shed the temp guage was in the red. To make a long story short when the weather turned cold that fall it started leaking coolant into the crankcase. The local IH dealer told him that it is was a common problem with the older model German Diesels. The 454 has a 3cyl D179 version of the D239 engine in the 674. I would suspect that it is the "O" rings that are leaking. BTW my Dad had the "O" rings replaced in the 454 and it is still running great with over 15,000 Hrs on it. Good luck JB2
