There's a very common misperception here that I'd like to play correct police on. "Disc Brakes are for Supers". The addition of disc brakes to IH tractors was long in the making. Certain tractors that needed them due to lots of hard brakeing in tough conditions (orchard tractors) received them as early as 1948 in very limited circumstances. However, most models did not receive them until 1952, probably due to bugs getting worked out, prices coming down, what have you. The addition of disc brakes to the Farmall M late in production was a normal running change, really didn't have anything to do with Super Anything. IH continually changed all of its tractors in production. Saying that some M's were built with "Super parts" really isn't correct in this case. Now, folks over the years have come to the conclusion that the Super Ms changeover was responsible for the discs, because all the Super Ms have discs, and only a few late Ms have the discs (I should say factory discs, plenty of the aftermarkets out there). This is a case where observation doesn't quite beat parts books and factory records.
