Allen, the Deere system, on the ag line anyway, was a true 24 Volt system. It charged the batteries at 24 Volts AND the starter operated off of 24 Volts. The 12 Volt lighting and gauge loads were split between the two halves of the system. What Dave is talking about is using a series-parallel switch so the batteries are connected in PARALLEL for charging at 12 Volts and in SERIES for starting, at 24 Volts. A diagram will NOT be hard to come by, because there were TONS of semis that used this system some years back, as well as construction and marine applications. There is a LOT of wiring and detail needed to make this conversion, though!
