If you are still wondering what to do I may be able to provide some insight. You are correct about what you need, although the front bracket spacer for the more tapered 56 series front may go in different weight bracket holes and have to be done differently. I can"t remember. However, it will be tricky because the tolerances are pretty tight. We have put an IH 85 12R30 on a 706 german diesel and a 966. We have two sets of brackets and they both "just work" and that"s all.

My advice would be to buy an 85 cultivator with the correct brackets on a farm sale or from a neighbor. If you want to modify the ones you have ask some neighbors if they know someone who has an 85 on your style of tractor (you might be surprised that they are out there). When you do this they will probably want to sell you their cultivator. They might exchange brackets for a price if you give them the option to buy their old ones back. If not, put those correct brackets on your tractor and mount your cultivator. Once you get it on you"ll see why you need to be so precise in measuring. While there is some adjustment with the big threaded rods, realize that this is to allow the cultivator to fold back into the side plates properly and not for just simply allowing the front and side brackets to fit on the tractor.
