JAGin, My Loboy has it"s own starter and it"s own generator. 2 completely different items. Now I know that a starter/generator will crank a single cylinder 10Hp Briggs, easily when it"s warm, it has a little trouble when the oil is cold. Sooooo...not sure that starter generator would crank the 4 cylinder Cub engine, maybe. The difference: The starter of course faces toward the rear of the tractor and spins the ring gear in the bell housing. By using a starter/generator (which continues to spin after engine starts, unlike the starter which disengages once the engine fires.) you would by way of a belt be cranking the front pulley. If you are using it in this manner, I would like to hear about it, sounds interesting. Did it work before? You may have a problem in the circuit going to the starter/gen. i.e. solenoid? weak battery, etc.. Have you tried putting direct battery to it on a bench with no belt? Does it spin quick?
