Not familiar with the 434, the 444 has a long lever by the left side of the seat, it goes into the trans housing at about foot rest level. It could be that this lever is missing for whatever reason. See if you see a broken off stub entering the rear end housing at about the level of the foot rest, or some sort of a plug if it is missing -- doesn't make much sense to me but it has to be there. Don't be concerned about the negative comments.
