Anything you use to seal will change the play, albeit only slightly. Silicone is the worst offender. Clean the shims real good and make sure they are flat. I use a sanding block with 180 emory cloth followed by Scothbrite and then a light dusting of High Tack, never had a leaker. What is worse to try to seal is the area where the belt pulley is attached to the splined shaft. 80% of the spacer length is over the splined area with only a small remaining contact area where the splines end. It's a poor design. Clean with brake cleaner and use a small amount of black RTV when you install the spacer.
