Moitsure got inside the cap and condensed there.Being water it conducted electricity and cross tracked/grounded the fire to the plugs.Once the moisture was gone it would fire correctly.That vent cap is to vent moisture when the distributor gets warm,and to vent the "ozone radiation" from electrical arcing.It still allows moisture in. Keep that CRC cleaner handy as you may need it again. Change the cap/rotor as they are worn and its cheap insurance. Sure wish they offered High Performance caps with brass contacts instead of aluminum.
