We broke the front axle also....The dealer is the one that told us that is somewhat common. You might want to check for the crack, it starts out as a hairline and starts to leak oil. It's right behind the water line(where it goes from the radiator to block) and is where the block turns out for the flange to bolt to the front. You may be surprised....
