IH 574 exhaust change

Boys,
I have a 574 with the lower exhaust, out the right side, down under the tractor and out the back. I want to change it to vertical. My manifold discharges down, back by the driver, on the under side. I see some diferent styles in the manual but none show the style manifold I have with the rear bottom discharge. I also do not want to cut the hood. What if I cut the exhaust pipe and bang a U and come straight up outside the hood with the muffler and extension pipe and cap. Would that be long enough not to damage any valves when shut off while cooling down or long enough not to sound stock car.
