In reply to your "rode hard today post" I live in South central Wisconsin. Here there is a state association of snowmobile clubs. There are several hundred smaller clubs in the state that are responible for getting permission from land owners to run trails across their land. They also groom them. The biggest problem here is that there are many snowmobilers that are not members of a club. What I think Joe Public doesn't understand is who goes through all the work of a trail system. We (as clubs) have been asked to discuss with our members about changing our registration requirements. Currently all snowmobile owners must register their snowmobile every two years for I beleive its about $30.00. this allows them to ride on the trail system. Our discussion now is: should there be a one time per sled registration fee ($35.00) for as long as you own the sled and then every year you are to purchase a "trail pass" ($35.00 for non club members and $15.00 for club members.) This is a ploy to get more membership. Some think the nonclub member fees should be higher yet. In Wisconsin Snowmobiling is a Billion $ Recreation throwing most of that money into local economies.
