The shifter has a round ball like knob on the trans end. this ball wears out and slips inbetween the shift rail slots in the trans. take the leaver out (usually a pin that is driven out sideways) and pull the leaver out. Take a screw driver (big) and a small flashlight and peer down in the hole. move the slots so they all line up ((clutch in to unload the trans gears). Fifth will be out of line. think in upside down and backwards, as the leaver pivots on the ball at the top of the casting. Have the ball welded up to the original size with a fairly hard material, and grind it to fit nice in the rail slots. smooth the ball with 220 silicon carbide paper to make it compatible with the slots and not wear them out.
