Chris: I don't think you are going to find out much other than from casting codes. IH were selling a lot of those 282 diesels for other uses, thus engine serial will tell you very little. There were probably more 282 diesels going for crawlers, stationary engines, etc, than to farm tractors. I don't think the pto lever ever changed on 560 as mine was a 63 and it had that same setup. Does your tractor have fast hitch, as draft control linkage for that was different on early ones. When you speak of short turn kit, I presume you mean steering linkage. That is nothing more than center control arm from a 656. Does your tractor have the indication on it that rear end and transmission were up graded by IH? I think I would turn to casting codes and as CNKS said, Guy Fay can enlighten you best on that one. I know my 63 Farmall 140 still has the traditional number and letter codes, but that doesn't mean big ones do. My 560 has been gone since 1978, so just don't remember the code item.
