If it was worn enough that you were getting into two gears (or stuck in one when you thought you were in neutral) it probably will eliminate the problem. If you are having this problem, another thing that can be tried is to replace the springs and balls on the shift rails that keep them from moving. I had the bad habit on our B of rounding the corner coming out of 3rd to get to reverse and the inertia of the moving rail would over-come the spring and ball and it would end up in 4th. Building up the shifter, installing new springs and balls and changing my habit to stop the shifter rail before going side ways totally eliminated my shifting problems.
