I am a new guy just bought a 1954 Cub I think but I do know somthing about Tetraethyl lead in fuel. It was added to gas for two reasons. Lead served as a lubricant to the valve guides and also the valve seats, and the second reason it was added was to raise the anti-knock value of the fuel. Which is another way of saying raising the octane value of the gas. I would think if you are not really working the tractor hard it won't make any differance at all. If you are working the tractor hard listen for detonation - some call it pinging. This can cause burned pistons, and other problems related to high cylinder temperatures. As for the valves, it usually takes a long time of hard running to affect them but the additives may stave off the final solution of replacing with harden valves and seats.

Oil Bath Air Filters - by Chris Pratt. Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
