Paul, The shock in your seat assembly was designed to "dampen" the bouncing of the spring. The SPRING was designed to hold the driver up and give him a little measure of flex. Once that spring is shot any shock will just compress to it's minimum, and stay there until it may have an opprtuninity to expand.I'd disassemble the seat assembly and check that spring out. It should be about 12 1/2 inches tall with no load.Then you can also check the shock. Local spring shop can rearch and heat treat the spring. Or you can shim the spring on each end to gain an inch, and pickup some coil spring spacers. The most frequent fatal accident on the H was failure of the seat, sending the operator to the ground in front of whatever he was pulling. Hope you weren't using a bush hog! I have #3053xx H GordoSD
