I would say it depends on which side of the coil your hot wire goes to. I am trying to remember... positive ground the hot wire should go to the "-" side of the coil. Negative ground the hot wire should go to the "+" side of the coil. Someone will correct me if I am wrong on the wiring but I do know that the coil is wired different depending on what ground you use. Then polarize the generator.
