Good advice. I want to add that pulling the wires from the distributor cap reduces the chance of getting bit as opposed to pulling them from the spark plug. As soon as you pull it, the wire is dead. When you pull from the spark plug, the wire is still hot. An old man showed me that one day on an oilfield gas engine that was running away. He reached up and pulled the wire from the mag to kill it. We had just got it started and the governer hung up. By grabbing the wire and pulling out of the coil he only got bit once or twice and saved the engine (he claimed he didn't get bit at all). This was fast thinking as the old engine took off and I was trying to engage the clutch to load it up on the well. He later told me that was stupid on my part because the engine could have oversped the well and pulled the string in two and we would have had a real story to tell the boss. The fuel valve was a hard to turn gate valve with no handle, so the plug wire or the clutch were the only quick methods we had to control the engine. The governer was inaccessible on top of the engine. In this day and age, I suppose the company would want you to back away and let it throw a rod, but back then part of doing a good job was preserving the equipment you were working with.
